Split Light.

The first art light.

The Split Light came to being in a concept model during Mike’s graduate thesis work. Typically possessing a columnar shape and variable slitting for light penetration, the Split Lamps convey a more peaceful energy. Manipulating slits cut into a solid plane created a multitude of light, and shadow fragments which radiated out the further they flowed from the light source. “Split” also points to the larger porthole voids in the rectilinear shape of the solid column. A simple form that creates complex intrigue. As a table fixture they are suited for mood lighting, meditation, and light/shadow casting. The Split Light can also be adapted to hanging pendant applications.
