Ovolo

The ovolo is an incredibly simple and pure form found in ancient Greek and Roman architecture. Originating from the Latin (ovum) and Italian (ovo), meaning egg, ovolo is one quarter of a circle or ellipse. The Ovolo Lamp incorporates both forms - ellipse at the peak and quarter round “ribs” in relief around the base.

Transforming a creative idea into its simplest iteration is often a difficult process, and the ovolo is no exception. In fact, the “ribs” are made using only half of the cutter head shape to excise only the convex quarter round.

Hand shaped from salvaged timber beams, the Ovolo Lamp has a solid five inch square base. The quarter round theme conveys into the shade structure which uses a custom 4 arm spider to support the veneer drum.
